Welcome to Roots of the World July 2013! As usual you will find the playlist for my podcast which this month covers a number of  festivals currently or about to satiating the N.E. roots music palette. I can recommend VAMOS which started in June. The music is vibrant, powerful and passionate and it attracts a really nice party crowd! The Durham BRASS! festival has a great community programme really getting brassy out in Durham communities and SUMMERTYNE , well, what can I say ? The best country, roots, old time, bluegrass, Americana ...all on the banks of the bonny Tyne and even on it! There's also coverage of the NARC Festival, Ouseburn Festival and the Stockton Weekender.
As well as the podcast there's a comprehensive (though possibly not completely exhaustive) gig guide, as well as useful info about Roots, World and Folk in the N.E.
North East Artist of the Month
Gem Andrews

Gem is based in Newcastle and she creates great songs which have caused such a stir including in Americana circles that she played at NXNE music fest in Toronto this June. She'll be on the bill at Summertyne as well. I've selected two beautiful tracks from her excellent debut album "Scatter", mellow music which I am sure you will enjoy.   More Gem info HERE! and some YouTube footage of her in the gig guide.
